Browns hold off Buccaneers after two-hour weather delay
Cleveland defeated Tampa Bay 23–19 at Raymond James Stadium after lightning, thunderstorms and heavy rain halted play late in the game.
The Cleveland Browns secured a 23–19 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 2 after severe weather forced a delay of more than two hours at Raymond James Stadium.
Lightning, thunderstorms and heavy rain halted play with two minutes remaining, while Cleveland held a four-point lead. Stadium staff directed fans to shelter in concourse and club areas as the teams left the field.
Play resumed shortly after 6pm ET, with Tampa Bay facing second-and-4 from Cleveland’s 28-yard line. The Buccaneers moved the chains after the stoppage, but a holding penalty contributed to a turnover on downs that ended their late threat.
Tampa Bay led 9–6 at half-time after the teams traded field goals. Cleveland scored two touchdowns in the second half and took its first lead with 3:51 remaining.
The result gave Cleveland its first win of the season and left the Browns with a 1–1 record.
