Braves dismantle Rangers in 15-1 rout as Sale reaches historic milestone
The Atlanta Braves secured a decisive 15-1 win against the Texas Rangers on Friday night, highlighted by Chris Sale’s seven shutout innings and a franchise-record nine-starters-with-hits performance.

The Atlanta Braves delivered a comprehensive dismantling of the Texas Rangers on Friday night, securing a 15-1 victory that showcased both offensive depth and pitching precision. The game was defined by a 19-hit outburst from the Braves, who overwhelmed the Rangers’ pitching staff and capitalised on every scoring opportunity. The result marks a significant shift in momentum, particularly given Texas’s recent success against left-handed starters.
Chris Sale was the architect of the Braves’ success on the mound, pitching seven shutout innings and allowing just two hits. The veteran ace, who recently sat out the All-Star Game in Philadelphia, delivered a masterclass in efficiency, throwing 62 strikes on 89 pitches. Sale recorded six strikeouts with no walks, striking out Rangers shortstop Ezequiel Duran in the fifth inning to become the 27th major leaguer in history to reach 2,700 career strikeouts. His record now stands at 10-6.
The Braves’ offence was relentless, with all nine starters recording at least one hit, a feat achieved by seven players who recorded two or more hits. Drake Baldwin led the charge with a 3-for-4 performance, including a five-run impact game highlighted by a three-run homer in the fourth inning that extended Atlanta’s lead to 5-0. Baldwin finished with five RBIs, providing the early cushion that allowed Sale to work comfortably.
Matt Olson and Austin Riley also contributed significantly to the offensive barrage. Olson hit a 420-foot home run into the Chop House restaurant in right field, finishing 2-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored. Riley was 2-for-5 with two runs, while Michael Harris II added two doubles and three RBIs. Rookie shortstop Jim Jarvis also made his mark, going 2-for-4 with a double, two runs, and an RBI, demonstrating the depth of Atlanta’s lineup.
In contrast, the Rangers struggled to contain Atlanta’s attack. Starter Cal Quantrill lasted only four innings, surrendering 11 hits and six runs on a season-high 86 pitches. He was relieved by Emiliano Teodo, who made his big league debut but allowed two runs over 1 2/3 innings. The Rangers, who had won eight of their last ten games against left-handed pitching, were thoroughly outmatched by Sale’s command. The series continues on Saturday with Rangers left-hander MacKenzie Gore facing Braves rookie right-hander Owen Murphy in Murphy’s first career start.
