Unbeaten racehorse Bow Echo has been retired from competition following a training setback, ending a flawless career with six wins from six starts. The six-year-old miler, trained by George Boughey, concludes his racing tenure having secured victories in three Group One races: the 2000 Guineas, the St James's Palace Stakes, and the Sussex Stakes.
The decision to retire the horse comes despite his preparation for the upcoming Prix Jacques le Marois. Boughey announced the development on X, stating that the team was forced to make the difficult call due to the setback suffered during training. He described the retirement as a disappointment but emphasised the significance of leaving the sport undefeated.
Boughey highlighted the horse's "unbelievable constitution and extraordinary ability" as key factors that distinguished him from his peers. The trainer noted that retiring with an unblemished record, having won the 2000 Guineas, St James's Palace Stakes, and Sussex Stakes, underscored the quality of the racehorse.
The announcement also acknowledged the role of the horse's owner-breeder, the late Sheikh Mohammed Obaid. Boughey expressed sadness that Obaid was not present to witness the culmination of his breeding efforts, noting that Bow Echo's remarkable story began with him.
Looking ahead, Boughey expressed excitement for the horse's next chapter, anticipating the arrival of a new generation of progeny on the racecourse.
