Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott rejects new deal amid Premier League interest

AFC Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has declined a new contract offer from the Premier League club, leaving the club’s summer recruitment strategy in a state of uncertainty. The 22-year-old England Under-21 international has two years remaining on his existing deal, but despite Bournemouth making the securing of fresh terms a priority, no agreement has been reached.
The rejection comes as interest in the player intensifies from several of the league’s most prominent institutions. Reports indicate that Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, and Chelsea are all monitoring the situation. This follows earlier reporting from BBC Sport in June, which stated that Arsenal had made an approach for Scott that was turned down by Bournemouth.
Scott’s current standing at the club is significant, having joined from Bristol City in 2023 for a fee of £25 million. Since his arrival, he has made 89 appearances for the Cherries, scoring six goals. His development has been marked by consistent performance, including being named the Championship’s young player of the season in 2022-23 during his previous tenure.
On the international stage, Scott was selected in his first England senior squad last November and was subsequently called up to manager Thomas Tuchel’s extended pre-World Cup training camp in Florida. However, he has yet to make a senior international appearance. His club career began at Guernsey FC before he moved to Bristol City in 2020, where he made 91 appearances across all competitions.
The 2025-26 season saw Scott play a key role in Bournemouth’s historic achievement of finishing sixth under manager Andoni Iraola, securing the club’s first-ever qualification for the Europa League. With the contract stalemate continuing, the specific financial terms of the rejected offer remain undisclosed, and it is unclear which of the interested clubs will pursue a formal bid in the upcoming transfer window.
