BorgWarner raises full-year EPS guidance on margin expansion and buyback boost
The company expanded adjusted operating margins by 100 basis points to 11.3 per cent and increased its share repurchase authorisation by $1 billion to $1.35 billion, citing strong cost controls and capital allocation discipline.

BorgWarner reported second quarter 2026 sales exceeding $3.6 billion, delivering a 100 basis point expansion in adjusted operating margin to 11.3 per cent and a 17 per cent increase in adjusted earnings per share. The automotive supplier raised its full-year adjusted EPS guidance to $5.05–$5.30 per diluted share, up from the previous range of $5.00–$5.20, attributing the improvement to robust cost controls and the impact of share repurchases.
Despite flat production volumes and headwinds in its Battery Energy Systems segment, the company secured seven new business awards across its automotive and industrial portfolios. These wins include a new eTurbo program with a major European original equipment manufacturer for hybrid applications and torque-on-demand case supplies for a Chinese OEM. The awards underscore the firm’s focus on efficient powertrain technologies and electrified drive solutions.
The Board of Directors approved a $1 billion increase to the share repurchase authorisation, bringing the total to $1.35 billion, which represents approximately 10 per cent of the company’s market capitalisation. This decision follows the return of approximately $134 million to shareholders in the second quarter through dividends and buybacks, reflecting management’s confidence in the business’s long-term cash-generating ability.
BorgWarner also announced an incremental $10 million–$15 million investment in industrial research and development to accelerate product readiness in data centre and energy storage markets. The firm highlighted progress in its turbine generator launch, noting that testing has confirmed CARB-level emission standards and that construction of the final assembly plant is nearing completion. The company expects to begin capital equipment installation in the third quarter.
Full-year sales guidance remains in the range of $14.0 billion to $14.3 billion, with organic sales expected to decline between 1.5 and 3.5 per cent year-on-year. The company continues to project an adjusted operating margin between 10.7 and 10.9 per cent and free cash flow of $900 million to $1.1 billion. Management indicated that strong first-half performance has enabled the increased R&D spend while maintaining full-year margin commitments.
