Boox raises Palma e-reader price with aluminium redesign and optional stylus
The Palma 3 retains its predecessor’s E Ink display while adding Android 16, a redesigned frame and support for Boox’s InkSense Plus stylus.
Boox has announced the Palma 3, a smartphone-sized black-and-white e-reader priced at US$339.99 and expected to be available soon. The new model is US$60 more than the Palma 2’s launch price in 2024.
The Palma 3 keeps the same 6.13-inch, 300ppi E Ink Carta display used in earlier models. Boox has paired it with a new anodised aluminium frame and a paper-like fibreglass backplate, giving the compact device a redesigned exterior without upgrading the screen.
The device runs Android 16, compared with Android 13 on the Palma 2 and Android 11 on the original Palma. The Verge reports that the newer operating system is intended to make the e-reader feel more like a modern mobile device.
Other specifications include a Qualcomm Q-6690 octa-core processor, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage expandable via microSD, and a 3950mAh rechargeable battery. The Palma 3 also includes a 16-megapixel rear camera and a fingerprint reader built into the power button.
The Palma 3 supports Boox’s InkSense Plus active stylus, allowing it to be used as a digital notepad with a preferred note-taking app. The stylus is optional and costs an additional US$46, meaning it is not included in the device’s listed price. Boox has not provided a specific release date.
