Blizzard schedules Diablo V for spring 2029, confirms Netflix animated series

Blizzard has announced at BlizzCon that Diablo V is scheduled for release in spring 2029, setting a release window for the next major instalment in the long-running game franchise.

The company also confirmed that an animated Diablo series is in development with Netflix. No release date or animation studio has been announced.

Blizzard has provided limited information about Diablo V’s story and features. The teaser and accompanying material suggest the game’s narrative will continue after the events of Diablo IV, but further plot details remain undisclosed.

The company said it would share more about the animated series as development progresses, offering only a brief indication that “Sanctuary’s darkness is spreading”.

Reports of a Diablo television adaptation have circulated for years, including a 2020 report that suggested an anime-style project was in pre-production with Netflix involved in distribution. Blizzard also hinted at possible adaptations of Overwatch and Warcraft, but provided no confirmation of those projects.
