Bitcoin traders eye contrarian signal as price stabilises near $62,000
The largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization is trading in a tight range, with analysts monitoring a historical moving average crossover that has previously marked market bottoms.

Bitcoin is currently trading at US$62,280, maintaining a narrow range between US$60,000 and US$65,000 throughout June. This price action follows a sustained decline that began in October of the previous year, prompting market participants to scrutinise technical indicators for signs of a trend reversal.
According to data from Yahoo Finance, a contrarian indicator based on the asset’s 50-week and 100-week simple moving averages (SMA) is approaching a significant formation. The metric tracks the point at which the 50-week average drops below the 100-week line, a pattern analysts term a “bear cross.”
The 50-week average is currently close to crossing below the 100-week line, with the full formation potentially occurring later this week. Historically, this specific crossover has marked a market bottom in all three previous instances in Bitcoin’s history, leading some to suggest the current downturn may be nearing its conclusion.
Market sentiment is divided on the precise timing of the bottom. Some analysts and crypto bulls argue that the asset likely bottomed when its price briefly dipped below US$60,000 earlier in June. Others are waiting for the completion of the bear cross signal to confirm the end of the selloff.
Skeptics caution that the historical sample size is limited. Critics note that three past instances are insufficient to draw definitive conclusions about future price movements, emphasising that past accuracy does not guarantee future performance.
