Big 12 withdraws federal lawsuit against Texas Tech over Sorsby eligibility
ESPN reports the conference has resolved related issues internally, though the terms have not been disclosed.
The Big 12 has withdrawn the federal lawsuit it filed against Texas Tech in June over former quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s eligibility, according to sources cited by ESPN.
The suit followed Sorsby’s legal challenge to an NCAA ruling that permanently barred him from playing. Sources told ESPN that issues connected to the case had been handled internally and that the conference was moving forward.
Sorsby was ruled permanently ineligible in April after acknowledging that he placed more than 9,000 wagers totalling at least US$90,000 on professional and college sports over four years.
A Texas court temporarily cleared a path for Sorsby to play for the Red Raiders. He later withdrew his own lawsuit and declared for an NFL supplemental draft, which was not held.
Sorsby has previously said he is preparing for the 2027 NFL draft. The specific terms, actions or consequences arising from the Big 12’s internal resolution have not been disclosed.
