Bennett backs Sunderland’s performance in Brentford draw
Former Sunderland defender Gary Bennett said the club deserved a point after a strong first-half display and a 1-1 draw with Brentford.

Sunderland drew 1-1 with Brentford in a match former defender Gary Bennett described as a deserved point for the Black Cats.
Speaking to BBC Radio Newcastle, Bennett praised Sunderland’s first-half performance and said the team played at a good tempo. He said Sunderland’s football was particularly strong in the opening 45 minutes.
Bennett said Brentford made changes at half-time and took the lead, but credited Sunderland for continuing to compete. In his assessment, the side maintained its effort and deserved something from the match.
He also pointed to the involvement of Wilson Isidor and Brian Brobbey as evidence that the pair could operate together. Bennett said a functioning partnership between them could give Sunderland another attacking option.
Bennett praised Kevin Danso’s debut alongside Dan Ballard and said Sunderland defended effectively when required. The comments were reported through Yahoo Sports from BBC Radio Newcastle’s post-match coverage.
