The Minnesota Vikings defeated the Chicago Bears 9–3 at Soldier Field on Sunday, restricting Chicago to three points and 297 yards of total offence in rainy conditions.

The Bears, who opened the season with a 59–37 win over Carolina, failed to score after the first quarter. Quarterback Caleb Williams reportedly suffered a hamstring injury while scrambling and was replaced by Tyson Bagent. The source did not state the severity of the injury or how long he might be sidelined.

Fox Sports reported that Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores outmanoeuvred Bears head coach Ben Johnson, whose offence struggled to convert opportunities against Minnesota’s defence. The defeat left Minnesota 2–0 and Chicago 1–1.

According to FOX Sports Research, Chicago’s 56-point drop between its first two games is the third-largest difference in points scored across a team’s opening two NFL games. The largest reported difference was 62 points by the 1973 Atlanta Falcons.

The result was also Minnesota’s seventh consecutive road win at Soldier Field, a streak tied for the second-longest in NFL history, according to Fox Sports. Chicago’s next fixture is a home game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3.
