Head coach Peter Gaydarov departs as academy focuses on senior promotions despite early cup exits

FC Bayern Munich’s U-19 team has concluded its 2025/26 season under head coach Peter Gaydarov, who is departing for a new role. The campaign was defined by a stark dichotomy between potent attacking output and significant defensive vulnerabilities, resulting in early exits from both the DFB Pokal and the UEFA Youth League. While the competitive results were inconsistent, the season served as a critical development platform, with multiple squad members earning professional debuts for the senior team.

In the domestic league structure, the side topped the first phase of the competition. The opening phase saw Bayern win five of their six matches, highlighted by a 7-1 victory over Stuttgarter Kickers, though they suffered a 1-0 defeat to local rivals 1859+1 Munich. Despite conceding no clean sheets across the 12-game phase, the attack was prolific, sharing the top offensive line with SSV Ulm 1846 by scoring 32 goals. Key contributors included Maycon Douglas Cardozo, Yll Gashi, and Moritz Göttlicher, who each scored four times.

The second phase proved more precarious. Bayern won only two of eight games, risking elimination from the knockout stages. They secured their place in the Round of 16 with a 3-3 draw against Rasenballsport Leipzig, a result that left them in fourth place. The defensive frailties persisted, with 21 goals conceded in 10 games, although the attack remained effective, netting 29 goals in the DFB Youth League group stage.

Bayern’s knockout run ended in the Round of 16 against FC Köln, last season’s winners, who overwhelmed the Bavarians 4-0. The UEFA Youth League campaign was similarly challenging, with the team finishing 27th in the table on just four points. After a narrow loss to Chelsea, their only victory came against Pafos, while matches against Club Brugge, PSG, and Arsenal ended in defeat. Gaydarov noted that the international experience provided valuable lessons on intensity and decision-making, despite the sobering results.

Despite the competitive setbacks, the season was marked by significant youth development milestones. Several players made their professional debuts for the senior team, including Wisdom Mike, Cassiano Kiala, David Santos Daiber, Maycon Douglas Cardozo, and Deniz Ofli. Ofli notably celebrated Bayern’s 35th German championship with the first team at the Allianz Arena. Gaydarov emphasized that seeing young players step up to the professional level was the greatest confirmation of the academy’s daily work, as most U-19s prepare for promotion to the U-23s or loans.
