Bayern Munich 5-1 FC Köln: Initial Reactions and Observations
Victory over FC Köln caps historic campaign as Bavarians look to DFB-Pokal

Bayern Munich has established a new benchmark for offensive output in European football, concluding the 2025/26 Bundesliga season with a record-breaking 122 goals. The tally was secured on 16 May 2026 following a 5-1 victory over FC Köln in the league’s final match, surpassing the previous record of 121 goals set by Real Madrid during the 2011/12 campaign.

The result cemented Bayern’s status as champions, a title they had confirmed earlier in the season. While the outcome of the league was already decided, the final fixture provided a platform for the Bavarians to celebrate a "topsy-turvy" season in which both their men’s and women’s squads secured trophies. The club now turns its attention to the DFB-Pokal final scheduled for the following week.

Harry Kane was instrumental in the final match, completing a hat-trick in the 69th minute with a strike from outside the penalty area. He was supported by goals from Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala, and Joshua Kimmich. Nicolas Jackson added a fifth goal in the 83rd minute, bringing the season total to the historic 122. FC Köln, having nothing at stake in the standings, scored a consolation goal through Tom Bischof.

The match featured several tactical shifts, with Bayern making multiple substitutions to manage player workload ahead of the cup final. Jonas Urbig replaced Manuel Neuer in goal during the 60th minute, while Michael Olise entered the pitch for Lennart Karl. Raphael Guerreiro came on for Jamal Musiala in the 70th minute, and Konrad Laimer was substituted for Josip Stanišić shortly after the restart.

FC Köln’s performance was hampered by a non-contact injury to Said El Mala in the 79th minute, which led to his substitution. The visitors also saw Konrad Laimer booked in the 37th minute for a late challenge. Despite the heavy defeat, the match concluded a season where Bayern demonstrated significant attacking depth, utilising young talents such as Lennart Karl and Tom Bischof in the starting lineup.
