At least six people have died after a multistorey building collapsed near Delhi University’s Satya Niketan campus in New Delhi, with rescue teams searching for survivors in the rubble.
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences said five patients were brought dead and a critically injured patient later died. The building was reportedly occupied mostly by students.
Disaster response teams, police and firefighters are using earthmovers and detection dogs to clear debris and locate people who may be trapped. Fire officer Abhilash Malik estimated that up to 40 people could remain beneath the rubble.
A nearby building was evacuated over concerns that it could also collapse. The cause of the incident, along with the number of survivors, remained unclear.
