Art programme accompanies Xi’s Washington state visit

A cultural programme at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art formed part of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan’s state visit to Washington, according to a White House account published on 25 September.
First Lady Melania Trump hosted Peng at the museum. The White House said they viewed a Shang dynasty jade disk, the Smithsonian’s Peacock Room, created by American artist James McNeill Whistler, and an 18th-century Qianlong-period porcelain vase.
A youth choir from Hope Chinese School performed “Jasmine Flower” and “Songs & Smiles” to conclude the programme, the account said.
The itinerary also included a White House state dinner and tea in the Red Room. On Friday, the president and first lady accompanied Xi and Peng to the National Archives, where they viewed records and documents relating to the United States’ 250th birthday and US–China history, according to the White House.
