ARS Pharmaceuticals Appoints Donn Casale as CEO Amidst Product Access Updates
Donn Casale brings over 25 years of industry experience, including significant commercial success at Dynavax Technologies, to lead ARS Pharmaceuticals as it navigates payer access developments for its lead product, neffy.

ARS Pharmaceuticals Inc. announced on July 8 that Donn Casale, the company’s current President, has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer and Director, effective July 7. The leadership transition follows the departure of co-founder and outgoing CEO Richard Lowenthal, who ceased employment with the company on July 6. The one-day gap between Lowenthal’s exit and Casale’s start date marks a distinct handover period for the biopharmaceutical firm.
Casale joins ARS Pharmaceuticals with more than 25 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical sector, having held various commercial leadership roles. Most notably, he served as Chief Commercial Officer at Dynavax Technologies, where he was instrumental in scaling annual revenues for the hepatitis B vaccine HEPLISAV-B to exceed $300 million. Under his guidance, the vaccine achieved over 50% market share in the United States prior to Sanofi’s $2.2 billion acquisition of Dynavax.
The leadership change comes as the company monitors commercial developments for neffy, its lead product designed to treat serious allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis without the use of needles. On June 24, ARS Pharmaceuticals provided an update on payer access for the epinephrine nasal spray, noting that no new coverage decisions or commercial formulary inclusions were released during the July 1 cycle.
Despite the lack of new formulary inclusions, the company stated that neffy remains widely available to commercially insured individuals through direct coverage. Additionally, a recently added retail cash option has been introduced to ensure access for patients. ARS Pharmaceuticals indicated it would continue collaborating with payers to further expand access to the treatment.
ARS Pharmaceuticals, listed on the NASDAQ under the ticker SPRY, continues to focus on developing medications for serious allergic reactions. The appointment of Casale signals a shift in executive leadership as the company seeks to leverage his extensive background in commercialisation and market expansion to drive growth for its needle-free epinephrine delivery system.
