Arlington High School in Massachusetts has appointed Johnathan Nascimento as its new head football coach, the institution announced via social media on 13 May 2026. The former defensive coordinator steps into the role leading the Spy Ponders, taking over a program that concluded the 2025 season with a 7-4 record.
The appointment follows the team’s most successful campaign since 2014, when Arlington finished with an 8-3 record. Prior to the 2025 season, the last time the Spy Ponders finished above the .500 mark was in 2017 with a 6-5 record. The 2025 squad finished ranked No. 106 in the final Massachusetts High School Football Massey Rankings.
Nascimento inherits a roster facing significant turnover, with 14 seniors graduating from the previous season. The incoming head coach must integrate new talent to replace the departing players while addressing defensive metrics from the prior year, where the unit yielded over 200 points.
The Spy Ponders began the 2025 schedule with a 3-3 record before finishing 4-1 in the remainder of the season. Under Nascimento, the administration aims to establish the first consecutive winning seasons since 2014 and 2015.
