Apple is cutting more than 200 jobs across its Siri and Vision Pro teams, according to a report from Bloomberg. The reductions mark a significant shift in the company’s approach to its emerging hardware and software divisions, with the changes aimed at streamlining operations and focusing on core user experiences.

The most notable impact of the cuts is on the Vision Pro gaming team, which Bloomberg says is being largely shut down. Additionally, the team responsible for creating immersive content for the headset is being reduced in size. These moves suggest a recalibration of the resources allocated to the spatial computing ecosystem, which has yet to achieve widespread commercial adoption.

Apple stated in a comment to Bloomberg that the changes are intended to “evolve our business to deliver the best experiences for our users.” The company noted that while positions are being eliminated, new roles are also being created. Apple did not immediately reply to a request for comment from The Verge, leaving the specific details of the new positions unclear.

The restructuring comes against a backdrop of mixed performance for the Vision Pro, which launched in early 2024 as Apple’s major bet on spatial computing. Despite a hardware update last year featuring an M5 chip, the $3,499 headset has not been a significant commercial hit. Bloomberg reported in May that Apple is working on a slimmer and lighter successor to the current model, although the company recently suspended work with Samsung Display on a display for an entry-level XR machine.

Looking ahead, Apple is reportedly planning to enter the smart glasses market, a sector where Meta has seen success. According to recent reports, Apple plans to announce its own smart glasses at WWDC in 2027, with a launch expected by the end of that year. This potential pivot could influence the long-term strategy for the company’s wearable technology portfolio.

Meanwhile, the voice assistant division is undergoing its own transformation. Apple launched its revamped, AI-powered Siri at this year’s WWDC. The new Siri is set to be available to the public in beta later this year, representing a key software update that may complement the hardware adjustments currently underway.
