Young stars to contest Roland Garros championship after straight-sets victories

Mirra Andreeva and Maja Chwalińska have secured their places in the French Open women’s singles final, setting up a championship match between two players making their Grand Slam final debuts. The contest, scheduled for 9 a.m. ET, will determine the first-time champion at Roland Garros, with coverage provided by Turner Sports on TNT and truTV.

Andreeva, the No. 8 seed, advanced to the final by defeating No. 15 seed Marta Kostyuk in straight sets. The Russian teenager raced through the first set 6-1, establishing early control before a brief interruption in the second set. The roof at Roland Garros was retracted to shield the court from incoming rain, a pause that momentarily shifted momentum in Kostyuk’s favour. However, Andreeva maintained her composure to close out the match, ending Kostyuk’s 17-match winning streak.

At 19 years old, Andreeva becomes the youngest finalist at Roland Garros since Coco Gauff in 2022. Her path to the final was marked by a commanding performance that neutralised Kostyuk’s recent form, securing a spot in the ultimate showdown of the tournament.

On the other side of the draw, qualifier Maja Chwalińska completed her remarkable run by defeating No. 25 seed Diana Shnaider in straight sets, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. The Polish player extended her fairytale campaign at the Parisian venue, overcoming a higher-ranked opponent to earn her first-ever Grand Slam final berth.

The final will be broadcast live on TNT and truTV, with streaming options available via Sling and HBO Max. The match represents a significant milestone for both competitors, who have navigated the challenges of the French Open to reach the decisive stage of the competition.
