Analyst predicts LeBron James to join Warriors in $30.8m deal
Prediction cites Lakers’ pivot to Luka Dončić and Warriors’ post-2025-26 rebuild as key drivers for potential free agency move

NBA analyst Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report has predicted that LeBron James will leave the Los Angeles Lakers to join the Golden State Warriors. The analysis suggests the four-time MVP will team up with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, citing the Warriors' need for a major move following a poor 2025-26 season and the Lakers' strategic focus on building around Luka Dončić.
Pincus suggests James will accept the non-taxpayer mid-level exception, signing a two-year deal worth $30.8 million, with the second year being a player option. The analysis notes that a sign-and-trade from the Lakers would require a three-year deal and trigger apron restrictions, which Pincus suggests makes the Warriors' offer a more viable path for James to pursue a fifth championship.
The report highlights that James is nearing 42 years of age but remains a powerful player, and that the Lakers face a significant decision regarding his future. Pincus wrote that while building long-term around Dončić is the priority, the Lakers have high hopes to take a step forward without him. If those plans fail, it could lead to one more season with the future Hall of Famer.
James has a history of joining high-profile teammates, including Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami in 2010, and Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love in Cleveland in 2014. This approach has previously drawn criticism regarding his method of team building, with critics accusing him of stacking the deck in his favour.
The Warriors are described as desperate to make a big move to keep their championship window open after a disastrous 2025-26 season. The Lakers are perceived as lacking the depth to be true title contenders without significant changes, making the potential move to Golden State a subject of intense speculation in the current free agency landscape.
