Julian Alvarez has escalated tensions with Atletico Madrid, reportedly threatening to force a transfer to Barcelona after losing patience with the club’s management. According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, the Argentine striker has moved from private dialogue to a public confrontation, warning colleagues at the training ground that they should no longer count on him.

The situation deteriorated on Monday when Alvarez was unable to speak with head coach Diego Simeone or CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin regarding his future. Alvarez had sought a meeting to discuss his departure, but Simeone had travelled to Ibiza for two days despite knowing the striker was returning and seeking a discussion. Gil Marin was similarly unavailable, preventing any immediate resolution.

Alvarez is reportedly frustrated by the absence of both key figures, viewing the lack of engagement as a removal of the opportunity for private resolution. Those around the striker at the training ground conveyed a clear message that he intends to stand firm rather than accept the club’s current position, signalling a significant shift in his stance.

Central to Alvarez’s position is the belief that Atletico Madrid made a commitment in February to allow his departure during the current summer transfer window. This alleged promise has become the cornerstone of his demand for an exit, with Barcelona identified as his preferred destination. The striker maintains that the club has failed to honour this understanding.

The confrontation is expected to intensify next Wednesday when Simeone returns to oversee training. Alvarez plans to confront the coach directly at that time, believing there will be no further reason for avoidance.
