49ers Sign Khalid Kareem From Falcons Practice Squad
San Francisco signed edge rusher Khalid Kareem days after he joined Atlanta, prompting the Falcons to re-sign Bralen Trice.
The San Francisco 49ers have signed edge rusher Khalid Kareem from the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad, according to a Yahoo Sports report.
Kareem reportedly joined Atlanta’s practice squad on Tuesday before San Francisco signed him on Friday. The transaction came as the Falcons continued adjusting their defensive depth following the 53-man roster deadline.
Atlanta responded by re-signing Bralen Trice to its practice squad. Trice was a third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft but missed his first two NFL seasons because of injuries and did not make the Falcons’ 53-man roster after the summer.
Kareem spent parts of the previous two seasons with Atlanta, where he contributed in run defence and pass-rush situations. His expected role with the 49ers has not been specified.
The move also reunites Kareem with San Francisco defensive co-ordinator Raheem Morris, who previously coached him during Morris’s time with Atlanta. Contract details and the longer-term prospects for either player were not provided.
