29 people hold 27% of global billionaire wealth, Altrata says
The 29 individuals with fortunes above US$50 billion held a combined US$4.1 trillion in 2025, as billionaire wealth climbed to US$15.1 trillion.
Twenty-nine people held 27% of global billionaire wealth in 2025, according to Altrata’s 2026 Billionaire Census, highlighting a sharp increase in concentration at the top of the wealth hierarchy.
Altrata defines “superbillionaires” as individuals with net worth above US$50 billion. The group represented 0.7% of the 3,795 billionaires counted globally and held a combined US$4.1 trillion.
Their share of billionaire wealth rose from 16.3% in 2023. Altrata’s comparison recorded 10 people above the US$50 billion threshold in 2017.
Total billionaire wealth increased 12.8% to US$15.1 trillion in 2025, while the billionaire population grew 8.2%. Altrata attributed the gains partly to AI-related equity growth, technology valuations and broader capital-market performance.
Most of the wealth held by superbillionaires is in equity stakes in listed and private companies rather than cash. The census identifies Larry Page, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk among prominent members of the group.
