2027 Cadillac Lyriq reportedly keeps Apple CarPlay as GM phases out phone mirroring
The Lyriq is expected to be the only GM electric vehicle sold in North America to retain both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
General Motors is reportedly planning to retain Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in the 2027 Cadillac Lyriq, creating an exception to the automaker’s broader shift towards native infotainment systems.
Engadget reported that the luxury electric SUV is expected to be the only GM electric vehicle sold in North America compatible with both phone-mirroring platforms. The continued support has not been confirmed in an official GM announcement in the supplied material.
GM has been removing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from newer electric vehicles and plans to phase them out of its petrol-powered range. The Chevy Silverado EV Work Truck and GMC Hummer EV reportedly lost the functionality earlier this year.
The company is instead developing native, AI-driven infotainment using Google technology, including Gemini and Google Maps. GM executives have said customers found switching between its in-house system and third-party applications clunky.
A Cadillac representative reportedly told CarBuzz that the decision to retain phone mirroring in the Lyriq was based on customer feedback. It remains unclear whether the move is a model-specific exception or signals a wider change in GM’s infotainment strategy.
GM has also expanded access to selected third-party services on its in-car platform, including Apple Music for 2025 and 2026 models. The company’s wider transition is aimed at building more functionality into its own software, but the Lyriq’s reported exemption leaves the policy’s long-term direction uncertain.
