Zero Parades: For Dead Spies Trailer Drops as ZA/UM Studio Navigates Post-Disco Elysium Era
ZA/UM Studio has released the first official trailer for its upcoming title, Zero Parades: For Dead Spies, confirming a May 21 launch on PC platforms at a price point of $40.

ZA/UM Studio, the developer behind the critically acclaimed Disco Elysium, has released the first substantive footage of its upcoming role-playing game, Zero Parades: For Dead Spies. The new video serves as a significant update following a mysterious teaser from last year when the project was known internally as Project C4. The studio describes the title as a psychedelic espionage RPG featuring a unique, scrapbook-esque visual aesthetic that distinguishes it from its predecessor.
The game is scheduled for release on PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG on 21 May for $40. A version for the PlayStation 5 is also planned, though it is not expected until later in the year. This announcement marks a shift from the secrecy that has shrouded the project since the studio underwent a major leadership change in 2022.
The release of the trailer comes amidst significant controversy surrounding the studio's management. In 2022, key creators Robert Kurvitz, Aleksander Rostov, and Helen Hindpere were dismissed by the new executive suite. The trio alleged that they were fired due to a hostile work environment and a lack of women in leadership roles, specifically citing Estonian businessmen Ilmar Kompus and Tõnis Haavel as factors in the toxic culture.
Former employees have noted that at least five women left or were forced out of the studio since Disco Elysium's launch. In response to the dismissals, Kurvitz and Rostov refuted allegations of intellectual property theft in an open letter, stating they were let go following an investigation into the takeover of ZA/UM. The pair subsequently formed their own company to continue their work.
The industry reaction to these events has been notable, with another group of former employees establishing the company Longdue to create Hopetown, a spiritual successor to Disco Elysium. While the new leadership has moved forward with Zero Parades, the departure of the original creative team has left questions regarding the studio's capacity to execute its vision.
As the trailer drops, the market watches to see if ZA/UM retains sufficient momentum to deliver a compelling product two weeks after the announcement. The upcoming release will test whether the studio can overcome the drama that has defined its recent history to launch a new intellectual property successfully.
