YouTube will let you ask AI to make a custom video feed
New feature allows signed-in accounts to curate content via text prompts

YouTube has launched a new artificial intelligence feature that enables users to generate personalised video feeds through descriptive text prompts. The tool allows subscribers to define specific interests, moods, or topics, such as workout guides or tech podcasts, which the system then curates into a dedicated feed. These custom streams can be pinned to the top of the user’s homepage for persistent access.

The feature is currently rolling out in the United States for signed-in users on the YouTube mobile app and desktop. Access requires English language support and necessitates that users have both search and watch history enabled within their account settings. Users can initiate the process by navigating to the “Your custom feed” tab on the homepage and entering a prompt into the provided AI text box.

Prompts can be tailored to specific needs, such as requesting guided meditations under 10 minutes or deep-dive tech podcasts. The system generates a feed based on these inputs, which users can edit at any time to create a new feed space. If the AI fails to meet expectations or generates irrelevant content, users can report issues via a “Something wrong?” option located in the feature’s three-dot menu.

This development mirrors broader industry trends toward AI-powered content customisation. Spotify has previously introduced prompted playlists, while Instagram recently enhanced user control over its Reels feed algorithm in December, although that approach utilises topic lists rather than open-ended descriptive prompts.

The specific artificial intelligence models or underlying technology employed to curate these feeds have not been disclosed. Furthermore, the source material does not provide a timeline for the international rollout beyond the current United States release.
