Yorkshire dismantle Surrey to claim dominant innings victory in Division One
The hosts secured 23 points after bowling out Surrey for 155 in their second innings, ending the visitors’ six-match unbeaten run in the Rothesay County Championship.

Yorkshire delivered a decisive performance at Headingley, securing an innings and 127-run victory over Surrey in the Rothesay County Championship Division One. The result, concluded before lunch on day four, marks a significant shift in momentum for both counties, ending Surrey’s six-match unbeaten streak in the division while providing Yorkshire with their second win of the season.
Yorkshire’s dominance was established early with a formidable total of 486 all out, anchored by robust centuries from Adam Lyth, who scored 141, and captain Jonny Bairstow, who contributed 120. The batting display left Surrey with a substantial target, which they failed to meet in either of their two innings, being bowled out for 204 and 155 respectively.
Surrey’s collapse in the second innings began rapidly after they started the day on 83-5. Jack White was instrumental in the dismissal, taking 3-27 from 11 overs to remove key batsmen Dom Sibley and Josh Blake. White trapped Blake leg before wicket and bowled Jordan Clark, leaving Surrey trailing significantly. Jhye Richardson also contributed with the ball, claiming a wicket in each innings during what was his final game of an early season overseas spell with Yorkshire.
The match concluded with Yorkshire taking the final five wickets to seal the win. After a brief resistance from Sean Abbott, who finished on 33 not out, and Dan Worrall, who scored 18, George Hill removed the last stumps to complete the victory. Yorkshire earned 23 points for the win, while Surrey took two points.
Both teams now turn their attention to the upcoming Vitality Blast, which commences on Friday. Yorkshire’s record in Division One stands at two wins, two losses, and two draws from six matches, while Surrey’s record is one win, one loss, and four draws. This defeat marks Surrey’s first innings loss in the Championship since May 2024.
