Pitcher sidelined with bone bruise; return timeline undetermined

The New York Yankees announced on Friday that pitcher Max Fried has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to a bone bruise in his left elbow. The decision follows medical imaging and an examination by team physician Dr Chris Ahmad on Thursday, which confirmed the nature of the injury sustained during recent play.

Fried was removed from Wednesday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles after just three innings due to soreness in his pitching elbow. The team recorded a 7-0 loss in that contest, but the primary concern shifted immediately to the pitcher’s physical condition after he reported discomfort during the match.

Describing the sensation after the game, Fried noted the area felt “uncomfortable” and “tight,” particularly between innings. He explained that the stiffness affected his initial warm-up, with his pitch velocity starting in the 88 to 91 mph range before improving as he threw more pitches within the frame.

The club stated that further tests will be conducted in the coming weeks to determine when Fried can resume throwing. Consequently, the exact timeline for his return to the roster remains undetermined pending the results of these additional medical evaluations.

This placement marks a temporary administrative step for the Yankees, allowing them to replace Fried on the active roster while his elbow heals. The organization will monitor his progress through the upcoming diagnostic phase before making any further decisions regarding his operational status.
