Yankees halt Subway Series slump with 7-6 victory over Blue Jays
New York improves to 29-19 after halting consecutive losses to the Mets, as Anthony Volpe shows signs of offensive recovery.

The New York Yankees concluded a difficult stretch in the Subway Series with a 7-6 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday, improving their season record to 29-19. The win at Yankee Stadium halted a skid following consecutive defeats to the New York Mets, providing a necessary stabiliser for the club as they opened a four-game series against Toronto.
Paul Goldschmidt set the tone early, launching a first-pitch home run off Blue Jays pitcher Patrick Corbin. The leadoff blast improved Goldschmidt’s career record against Corbin to seven hits in 15 at-bats, including two home runs. He added a game-tying double in the fourth inning, marking his third multi-hit performance in his past four games, while Ben Rice started at designated hitter batting second.
The contest remained tight as Blue Jays pitcher Ryan Weathers struggled with command despite flashing his strikeout potential. Weathers allowed seven hits, including two home runs, over 5.1 innings, striking out seven batters while issuing no walks. His outing included a three-run homer to Ernie Clements that gave Toronto a 3-1 lead, followed by George Springer’s solo shot in the fifth that extended the advantage to 4-3.
New York’s offence turned the tide in the seventh inning with back-to-back two-run home runs from Cody Bellinger and Jazz Chisholm Jr. The four-run surge provided the cushion the Yankees needed to survive a ninth-inning run by Toronto, securing the win after coming up short in their previous two matchups at the Mets.
Shortstop Anthony Volpe continued a recent offensive uptick, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and scoring a run on a J.C. Escarra sacrifice fly. Volpe, who had started 0-for-6 upon his recall last Wednesday, followed a strong showing against New York with consistent contact, offering a spark for a team looking to maintain momentum.
The Yankees will look to extend their winning streak when the series continues on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Will Warren (5-1, 3.42 ERA) is set to start for New York against RHP Dylan Cease (3-1, 2.41 ERA) for Toronto.
