Their assessment follows significant roster changes during the offseason, specifically the departure of Romeo Doubs via free agency and the trade of Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles. These moves have left Allen Watson, Jayden Reed, and second-year Matthew Golden as the primary candidates to form the core of the receiving group.
Harmon suggests that the receiving corps has achieved a degree of clarity, predicting that head coach Matt LaFleur will rely primarily on Watson, Reed, and Golden. He indicates that secondary options, including Savion Williams and Skyy Moore, are unlikely to see significant rotation. However, the analysts note that injury concerns persist for Watson, while Golden saw limited usage during his rookie campaign in 2025.
Performance data from the previous season informs these projections. Watson played 10 games, recording 35 catches, 611 yards, and six touchdowns, ranking 16th in fantasy points per game. Conversely, Reed appeared in only seven games due to injury, and Golden managed 29 catches on 44 targets with zero touchdowns. Pianowski raises specific concerns regarding the potential impact of tight end Tucker Kraft, who is recovering from a torn ACL sustained in the previous season. He worries that Kraft's target share, combined with LaFleur's tendency to prioritise the running game, could suppress quarterback Jordan Love's passing attempts.
