New devices offer flagship-level telephoto capabilities and high-capacity power cells at a fraction of flagship cost

Xiaomi has expanded its 17 series into the midrange sector with the launch of the 17T and 17T Pro smartphones, devices that introduce high-specification hardware typically reserved for flagship models. The new handsets are positioned to offer significant value in the European and UK markets, featuring 5x telephoto cameras, high-refresh-rate AMOLED displays, and large silicon-carbon batteries. The 17T Pro is priced at £799, while the standard 17T is available for £650.

The 17T Pro is driven by a 3nm MediaTek Dimensity 9500 processor and houses a substantial 7,000mAh silicon-carbon battery. It features a 6.83-inch 1.5K AMOLED display capable of refresh rates up to 144Hz and peak brightness of 3,500 nits. The camera array includes a 50-megapixel main sensor with a Leica-made f/1.67 lens and optical image stabilization, alongside a 50-megapixel 5x telephoto lens with an f/3.0 aperture and a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera.

The standard 17T model utilises a 4nm MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra chip and a 6,500mAh battery. It sports a slightly smaller 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel with up to 120Hz refresh rates, maintaining the same 3,500-nit peak brightness. While it shares the same 50-megapixel main, 50-megapixel telephoto, and 12-megapixel ultrawide camera setup as the Pro model, its main sensor lacks the Leica branding found on the Pro variant.

Both devices support 100W fast charging and introduce a new Leica-branded feature called Leica Live Moment. This function captures a video snippet alongside stills across all camera sensors, applying Leica’s signature aesthetic, and is compatible with Portrait mode. The 17T Pro also supports up to 120x AI-powered Ultra Zoom, a capability that distinguishes it from competitors such as the iPhone 17 Pro, which offers a maximum of 4x optical zoom.

Xiaomi has confirmed availability for both models through online channels and retail stores in the UK and Europe. There is currently no confirmed availability for the US market. The pricing strategy positions the 17T Pro at approximately $1,070 and the 17T at roughly $871, offering a cost-effective alternative to the company’s premium 17 Ultra model.
