Xbox showcases 'Stranger Than Heaven' action-adventure epic across five eras
Developers and cast members discussed the narrative and world of the upcoming game during a half-hour presentation streamed to Xbox partners

Xbox hosted a showcase event on Wednesday, 6 May, to present details on the upcoming action-adventure title *Stranger Than Heaven*, developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. The roughly half-hour presentation featured developers and cast members discussing the game's story, world, and characters, providing a deeper look at the project ahead of its wider release.
The title is described as a *Yakuza*-like epic that covers five cities across five distinct eras. These time periods include 1915, 1929, 1943, 1951, and 1965. The presentation highlighted that the 1965 storyline is set in Kamurocho, the fictional Tokyo district familiar to fans of the *Yakuza* franchise.
While the setting overlaps with the long-running series, leading to speculation that the game could serve as a prequel depicting the rise of the clans, the studio has remained silent on an official connection. Despite the *Yakuza* likeness and the shared location, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has not confirmed whether *Stranger Than Heaven* is officially linked to its established franchise.
The game was previously known as "Project Century" during its early development cycle but has since been rebranded. Although the showcase was conducted as an Xbox Partner Preview, the title is not exclusive to the console. It will be available on Xbox, PS5, and Steam upon launch.
A confirmed release date has not yet been announced for the title. The showcase event was streamed on YouTube and the Twitch Xbox channel, with an American Sign Language (ASL) version also made available for accessibility.
