Woman joins class action against xAI alleging Grok AI generated explicit images

A woman identified in court documents as Jane Doe 4 has formally joined a class action lawsuit against Elon Musk’s xAI, alleging that her stepfather used the company’s Grok chatbot to generate explicit images of her as a child. The legal action centres on claims that the chatbot was used to manipulate a photograph taken when the woman was 11 years old, resulting in more than 7,000 explicit images.

The lawsuit was originally initiated by three Tennessee teenagers who accuse xAI, which is now part of SpaceX, of failing to implement necessary safeguards to prevent the creation of child sexual abuse material. The plaintiffs argue that the company neglected basic precautions to stop the tool from being used to create explicit imagery of real people, including minors.

According to the complaint, the woman’s stepfather died by suicide two days after law enforcement uncovered the images during a raid. The allegations follow broader concerns regarding the misuse of generative AI, including reports earlier in 2026 that the X platform was flooded with millions of Grok-generated sexualised images.

In a statement regarding the case, the woman highlighted the rapid proliferation of such technology. “Limitless access to these tools is spreading so quickly,” she said. “It is taking everyday life and turning it into child sexual abuse.” The suit seeks class action status to address the systemic risks posed by unrestricted access to these AI capabilities.
