Wolves mark 150th anniversary with historic kit redesign
Fan consultation drives design choice as Wolverhampton Wanderers partner with SUDU to honour civic ties

Wolverhampton Wanderers have unveiled their official 2026-27 home kit, a significant departure from standard club branding designed to mark the organisation’s 150th anniversary. For the first time in more than three decades, the shirt will feature the Wolverhampton city coat of arms rather than the traditional club badge.
The design decision reflects a strategic emphasis on the club’s institutional roots within the city. Produced in partnership with manufacturer SUDU, the kit is intended to honour the historical connection between the football club, the local municipality, and the supporter base that has sustained the organisation for a century and a half.
The specific shade of gold used for the jersey was determined through a structured consultation process involving nearly 10,000 supporters over a 13-day period. The outcome of this engagement saw 47 per cent of voters select the ‘90s shade of gold, indicating a strong preference for the club’s historical aesthetic over alternative options.
Club historian Peter Crump provided context on the selection, noting that the ‘90s shade holds a distinct place in the club’s institutional memory. He stated that the colour is associated with some of the club’s most successful eras and remains one that supporters instantly associate with the team’s identity.
The launch of the commemorative kit coincides with the broader 150th anniversary celebrations for the 2026-27 season. By integrating civic symbols into the official matchwear, Wolverhampton Wanderers are reinforcing their status as an institution deeply embedded in the local community and its history.
