WNBA franchises finalise 2026 rosters as expansion teams diverge in strategy

All twelve WNBA franchises have completed their 15-player rosters ahead of the 2026 regular season, meeting the May 7 deadline set by the league. With the season opener scheduled for 8 May, the finalised lineups reveal significant shifts in team composition following a turbulent preseason.

The most notable departures involve established franchises waiving high-draft selections. The Golden State Valkyries waived second-round pick Marta Suarez, while the Seattle Storm released first-round pick Taina Mair. The Chicago Sky also let go of former first-round pick Hailey Van Lith, completing a series of moves that altered the anticipated depth charts for several major markets.

Expansion teams have adopted markedly different philosophies for their inaugural seasons. The Connecticut Sun will field an extremely young roster for their final season in the state before relocating to Houston, with only three players in camp possessing five or more years of experience. The Minnesota Lynx, meanwhile, saw a mass exodus of personnel, leaving their three leading scorers from last season as the primary anchors amidst a reshaped lineup.
