Wisconsin women's hockey flips second 2027 recruit from Minnesota
Forward Annabelle Lovell switches allegiance from Minnesota Golden Gophers to Badgers

The University of Wisconsin women’s hockey program has strengthened its roster for the 2027 recruiting class by securing the commitment of forward Annabelle Lovell. The move effectively flips Lovell from the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, marking a significant shift in the recruiting landscape between the two regional rivals.

Lovell, a two-time participant in the U-18 World Championships for Team USA, announced her decision via Instagram. In her statement, she expressed excitement about playing Division I hockey at the University of Wisconsin and extended thanks to her family, coaches, teammates, and specifically acknowledged Caitrin Lonergan.

The commitment follows a period of consideration for the forward, who originally pledged to Minnesota in August 2025. According to reports, longtime head coach Mark Johnson was credited with eventually winning Lovell over after she had time to deliberate on her options.

Lovell brings a strong track record from Lovell Academy, where she holds the all-time points record. Her addition to the Badgers’ lineup complements the recent arrival of defender Megan Mossey, who was the first recruit from Minnesota to switch allegiance to Wisconsin for the 2027 class.

The acquisition of two key players from the Golden Gophers’ recruitment pool highlights a competitive edge for Wisconsin’s coaching staff. Lovell’s decision concludes a notable recruiting battle, positioning the Badgers with a strengthened defensive and forward core for the upcoming season.
