Best Dyson Vacuums (2026): V15 Detect, Gen5Detect, PencilVac
Consumer electronics publication recommends specific models while noting navigation issues with new AI robot vacuums

WIRED has published an updated buying guide for 2026, recommending specific Dyson vacuum models including the V15 Detect, Gen5Detect, and PencilVac. The publication notes that Dyson refreshed its product lineup in September 2025 with new releases such as the Spot+Scrub AI robot vacuum and the Clean+Wash floor cleaner. The guide provides detailed features, pricing, and maintenance advice for cordless, robot, and upright vacuums, aiming to help consumers navigate the company’s complex model hierarchy.

The V15 Detect, priced at $599, is identified as the overall top pick for its mix of features and reasonable price point. It features a green laser to illuminate dust particles and a sensor that automatically adjusts power levels. For users requiring longer battery life and stronger suction for pet hair, the Gen5Detect is recommended at $800. This model boasts a faster motor reaching 35,000 revolutions per minute and a HEPA filter that traps 99.99 percent of particles down to 0.1 microns.

Newer entrants in the market include the Spot+Scrub AI robot vacuum and the PencilVac Fluffycones. The Spot+Scrub AI, Dyson’s first robot vacuum capable of mopping, received mixed reviews regarding navigation. WIRED reviewer Chris Haslam reported that the device struggled with low furniture, particularly IKEA pieces and builder-grade kitchen cabinets, often wedging itself underneath. The PencilVac, priced at $450, is described as a lightweight option for hard floors, suitable for users with mobility restrictions or as a companion to robot vacuums.

The guide also covers maintenance and warranty details critical for long-term ownership. Dyson offers a two-year warranty for cordless models and five years for corded models, effective from the purchase date with proof of purchase. Filters should be cleaned monthly with cold water without detergents and dried for at least 24 hours. Reviewer Brenda Stoylar noted that while the V15 Detect Submarine requires no special setup for mopping, the mop head must be rinsed by hand.

Regarding older models, the guide advises against paying full price for the V11, which former reviewer Adrienne So called the “dream vac” in 2019. It is recommended only if found for under $350. The Dyson Ball Animal 3 upright vacuum is suggested for those preferring traditional designs, while the Clean+Wash Hygiene floor cleaner is highlighted for its lack of off-odours, a significant improvement over the older WashG1 model which reportedly developed mould in its tray.
