Over 50 games revealed in showcase that contrasts with blockbuster announcements

The Wholesome Direct 2026 showcase, held as part of Summer Game Fest 2026, presented a slate of more than 50 indie and cozy games, offering a distinct alternative to the high-budget blockbuster presentations that typically dominate the festival. The event, which has established itself as a counterpoint to industry blockbusters, highlighted titles focused on community-driven experiences and lower-stakes gameplay mechanics.

A primary focus of the announcements was Hidden Folks 2, a sequel to the 2017 title that helped popularise the seek-and-find genre. Scheduled for release in 2027 on mobile and PC, the game will feature hand-drawn, interactive miniature landscapes across various new themes. The developers have indicated the sequel will include additional humour, sound effects, and quality-of-life improvements over the original.

Other notable reveals included The Drift, a narrative adventure from a new studio led by Sable co-creator Daniel Fineberg. The game follows Luna, a telecoms engineer working in space, balancing daily technical problems with social interactions aboard her ship. The premise centres on themes of finding hope and meaning in a fragmented world.

Midsummer Madness was also announced as a Moomins-themed puzzle game launching in 2026 on PC and Nintendo Switch. Moving away from the franchise’s traditional winter settings, the game utilises a painterly visual style and features a fantastical premise involving a floating, abandoned theatre filled with puzzles.

The showcase also detailed several other upcoming releases and updates. Patience Is a Virtue, a mystery puzzle game involving a sentient cassette player, is currently available via a Steam demo. Waterful, a procedurally generated city builder focused on guiding water to rejuvenate desert valleys, was highlighted for its replayability. An unnamed open-world otter adventure is set to launch on Steam in September, featuring gentle puzzles and platforming.

Additionally, The Wandering Village received an expansion titled The Last Leviathan. The update introduces an aquatic creature for players to build upon, along with new mechanics related to the creature’s body temperature and mood, and an arctic ocean environment to explore.
