Whisker Unveils New Litter-Robot Lineup with AI Cameras and Waste Identification
The review highlights the premium Litter-Robot 5 Pro, which features dual AI-enabled cameras and WasteID technology to identify individual cats and waste types, alongside budget and reliability-focused alternatives.

WIRED has completed comprehensive testing of the entire current lineup of Whisker's Litter-Robot automatic litter boxes. The evaluation covers four specific models: the new Litter-Robot 5 Pro, the Litter-Robot 5, the budget Litter-Robot EVO, and the established Litter-Robot 4. The review distinguishes the premium 5 Pro by its dual AI-enabled cameras and WasteID technology, which identifies individual cats and waste types to adjust cleaning cycles.
The Litter-Robot 5 Pro is identified as the premium option, featuring dual AI-enabled cameras that can recognise up to five individual cats. This model also utilises WasteID technology to determine the type of bathroom visit, such as urine versus faeces, and adjust cleaning cycles accordingly. Full functionality of these features requires a paid Whisker+ subscription costing $80 per year. The Litter-Robot 5 offers similar waste identification capabilities via a built-in scale but lacks the AI camera system.
The Litter-Robot EVO is positioned as a simplified, budget option supporting up to two cats, featuring physical buttons rather than a touchscreen. It does not include AI-powered technology or a smart WasteID system but maintains the intuitive Whisker app with customizable settings. The Litter-Robot 4 remains a top recommendation for its reliability, optional LitterHopper auto-refill attachment, and compatibility with physical controls.
A key distinction in the new models is the design shift; the Litter-Robot 5 Pro and 5 utilise touchscreens or LCD panels, whereas the EVO and the older 4 model retain physical buttons. The Litter-Robot 4 is currently the only model compatible with the LitterHopper auto-refill attachment. Whisker has stated that 5-compatible accessories are coming soon, but no specific release date has been confirmed after three months.
All models tested include a 90-day in-home trial, a one-year warranty, free shipping, and HSA/FSA eligibility when ordered directly from Whisker. The connected app across the range allows users to monitor usage, control settings while away, and keep tabs on their cat's important health metrics through clean, easy-to-use interfaces.
