West Indies name Hetmyer and Joseph for Sri Lanka ODI series
Cricket West Indies has selected a 15-man side for the three-match series in Jamaica, with captain Shai Hope aiming to extend the team’s unbeaten home record.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match One Day International series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to take place at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica, on June 3, 6, and 8. The selection includes the return of left-handed batter Shimron Hetmyer and fast bowler Alzarri Joseph, both of whom are expected to bolster the side’s capabilities ahead of a pivotal stage in their international calendar.
Skipper Shai Hope will lead the team as they seek to extend their unbeaten home ODI series record to five consecutive victories. The West Indies last secured a home series triumph against Pakistan in August 2025. Head Coach Daren Sammy has emphasised a strategy of playing "fearless but intelligent cricket" to maintain dominance at home, noting that the team aims to win moments consistently rather than relying on individual brilliance.
Hetmyer’s inclusion is part of CWI’s strategic build-up towards the 2027 ICC Men's ODI World Cup. He is set to join the squad ahead of the third and final match of the series. Meanwhile, right-arm quick Alzarri Joseph is making his first international appearance since July 2025, when he was sidelined due to a back injury. His return follows a period of absence that began prior to the Australia tour of the Caribbean last year.
Spinner Gudakesh Motie also rejoins the squad, having missed the tour of New Zealand in November. The series is viewed as a critical phase in the West Indies' campaign for automatic qualification to the 2027 World Cup. Sammy described Sri Lanka as a disciplined and skilful ODI unit, particularly adept in conditions requiring patience, and stressed the need for clarity with the bat and consistency with the ball.
Following the ODI series, the two sides will contest three Twenty20 Internationals in Jamaica before moving to Antigua for a two-Test series. The full squad comprises Hope, Ackeem Auguste, John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves, Hetmyer, Amir Jangoo, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Motie, Sherfane Rutherford, Jayden Seales, and Shamar Springer.
