Weber excluded from Team Europe as Solheim Cup eligibility rules take effect
Dewi Weber remains ineligible for the 2026 Solheim Cup despite a career-high world ranking, as strict membership criteria prevent her selection for the Netherlands-hosted event.
Dutch golfer Dewi Weber has been ruled ineligible for Team Europe at the 2026 Solheim Cup, a decision stemming from her status as a non-member of the Ladies European Tour (LET). The tournament, scheduled for Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands from 11 to 13 September, will see Anna Nordqvist captain the European side in their bid to regain the trophy following their defeat to Team USA in 2024.
Weber’s exclusion follows a failed attempt to secure automatic LET membership by winning one of three designated qualification events. The 30-year-old missed the cut at the Amundi Evian Championship and finished tied-44th at both the ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open and the AIG Women's Open. Under the current qualification framework, automatic spots are allocated to the top two players on the LET Solheim Cup points list and the next six available players in the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings.
The Dutch player revealed she was unaware of the specific eligibility requirement until receiving a direct inquiry from Captain Nordqvist. "I was aware of it the second I got a text from Anna, who was asking, 'are you an LET team member?' I said no," Weber told Sky Sports. Following this clarification, her objective shifted to securing membership through a victory in the remaining qualifying tournaments, a target she ultimately missed.
Weber’s qualification efforts coincided with a significant rise in her professional standing. A tied-third finish at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship earlier in the summer propelled her from outside the top 200 to a career-high world ranking of No 82. Despite this performance, the structural requirements for Team Europe selection remained unchanged, leaving her outside the automatic qualification path.
When the final team was confirmed, three players ranked below Weber in the world rankings were selected as captain's picks. Julia Lopez Ramirez, Nastasia Nadaud, and Mimi Rhodes were awarded rookie appearances for Team Europe. Weber, who aims to become only the third Dutch player to feature in the event after Christel Boeljon and Anne van Dam, expressed openness to any involvement in the home tournament, noting its potential significance for youth golf in the Netherlands.
