Warriors GM Dunleavy signals roster finalisation as LeBron James decision nears
Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy has indicated the team is close to finalising its roster, a statement widely interpreted as a precursor to securing LeBron James for the 2026-27 season.

Golden State Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy stated the team is close to finalising its roster, a comment interpreted as a signal that former Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is nearing a decision on his free agency destination. The Warriors have actively pursued James, with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green reportedly meeting with him to persuade him to join the team for the 2026-27 season.
Dunleavy told reporters on Tuesday night, “I think we're getting close to finalising the roster.” The remark suggests the franchise is preparing to build its lineup around James’s potential arrival, with sources indicating that if the four-time NBA champion joins, the team would likely only need to add one more player to complete its roster.
NBA insider Brett Siegel noted that the likelihood of James joining the Warriors has shifted from “low percentage” to “questionable,” with “some legs to this.” Siegel confirmed that Curry is actively pursuing James, with reports suggesting Curry plans to meet with James over the next few weeks leading up to free agency to discuss the prospect of pairing them in the Bay Area.
Draymond Green has also made his case for James to join Golden State. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that James and Green are spending time together as James considers joining a new team for the 2026-27 season. Green met with James at an undisclosed location during a Tuesday appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show, according to reports from Bleacher Report.
The Warriors have been in the mix for James since it became clear he would become a free agent and leave the Lakers. The franchise, which has had numerous Finals battles against James throughout his career, is hoping to add the NBA’s all-time leading scorer for a final run at an NBA championship. However, it remains unconfirmed whether James has made a final decision, and the situation remains fluid.
