Warrington end Hull KR’s title defence to reach Super League semi-final

Warrington Wolves have reached the Super League semi-finals after defeating reigning champions Hull KR 35-12 in an eliminator at Halliwell Jones Stadium.

Matty Ashton scored a hat-trick for Warrington, including his 100th Super League try, as the Wolves secured their first semi-final appearance since 2024. The club missed the play-offs in 2025.

Warrington led 12-6 at half-time, with Hull KR’s Joe Burgess responding to early scores from Ben Currie and Ewan Irwin before Ashton crossed just before the break.

Sky Sports reported that Hull KR forward Peta Hiku was sent off early in the second half for an alleged punch on Warrington captain George Williams. Warrington extended their lead after the dismissal, although Hull KR reduced the margin to four points through Dean Hadley.

Ashton’s third try restored Warrington’s control, with Albert Hopoate, Williams and Toby King adding further scores. The result ends Hull KR’s defence of the club’s first Super League title, won in 2025.

Warrington are scheduled to face Leeds Rhinos in the semi-final on 25 September. The other semi-final will see Wigan Warriors host Wakefield Trinity on 26 September, with the Grand Final scheduled for Old Trafford on 3 October.
