Volkswagen names ID.Tiguan as ID.4’s electric replacement
The SUV is expected to launch in Europe in early 2027, with a US arrival planned for a later date.
Volkswagen says its all-electric ID.Tiguan will replace the retired ID.4, bringing the company’s familiar Tiguan name to its next electric SUV. The vehicle is expected to reach Europe in early 2027 and the US at an unspecified later date.
Design details remain under wraps while the vehicle is camouflaged. Volkswagen says the ID.Tiguan will retain much of what worked in the ID.4 while adding more physical controls, including buttons for all four windows and controls for volume and climate settings.
The ID.4 was introduced in 2020 as Volkswagen’s mass-market electric vehicle. The Verge reports it sold 950,000 units since 2021; Volkswagen described it as among its most successful battery-electric model series.
Volkswagen ended ID.4 production at its Chattanooga factory in April 2026. The ID.Tiguan is expected to join the ID.Polo and ID.Cross in the company’s European electric lineup.
Volkswagen has not said whether the ID.Tiguan will use software and vehicle architecture developed with Rivian. A Gemini-powered voice assistant is also unconfirmed.
