The extension increases Vea’s 2026 salary to $24 million, representing a $6 million raise for the current season. This structure secures a total of $48 million for Vea over the next two seasons. According to Spotrac, the $24 million average salary places Vea in the same tier as several Pro Bowl defensive linemen, tying him with Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Derrick Brown as the league’s 13th highest-paid player at the position.
The resolution of the contract standoff marks the end of a period of uncertainty that began with a trade request earlier in the summer. By locking in Vea’s future, the Buccaneers have reinforced the stability of their defensive line, which has been a cornerstone of the team’s identity since the Super Bowl LV victory. Vea’s presence has been pivotal in anchoring a unit that ranked in the top three in total defence from 2019 to 2021 and regained top-five status in 2023.
