Vikings secure Jauan Jennings in one-year deal to bolster receiving corps

The Minnesota Vikings have formalised an agreement with free agent wide receiver Jauan Jennings on a one-year contract with a maximum value of $13 million. The deal was confirmed by Jennings' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, to ESPN's Adam Schefter, marking a significant move to address depth at the receiver position.
This acquisition establishes Jennings as the team's reliable third receiver, slotting him behind established stars Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. The signing directly replaces Jalen Nailor, who departed for the Las Vegas Raiders in March to sign a three-year, $35 million contract. The move also follows the release and subsequent retirement of Adam Thielen, leaving a void in proven veteran depth that the coaching staff sought to fill.
Head coach Kevin O'Connell has expressed a desire for more established production at the position, particularly after rookie Tai Felton saw limited action during the 2025 season. Despite Felton's selection as a third-round pick in 2025, he recorded only 46 offensive snaps as a rookie, prompting the administration to look toward experienced alternatives to support the offensive strategy.
Jennings, 28, joins the Vikings after spending the 2025 season with the San Francisco 49ers. His tenure in the Bay Area was marked by resilience; following a hamstring injury and a contract stalemate that kept him out of most of training camp, he returned to the squad and battled through rib, ankle, and shoulder issues later in the campaign.
Statistically, Jennings provided a solid floor for his previous team, recording 55 receptions for 643 yards and nine receiving touchdowns in 2025. This output followed a career year in 2024 where he amassed 77 catches for 975 yards and six touchdowns, though his attempt to secure a long-term extension following that performance ultimately did not materialise.
While the Vikings have agreed to terms, specific financial details such as guaranteed money and incentive structures remain undisclosed. Furthermore, Jennings' availability for the upcoming season is not yet certain, given his history of injuries and the previous contract stalemate that complicated his relationship with the 49ers last summer.
