Vanderbilt secures eighth recruit in 2027 class with Davion Crumitie
Head coach Clark Lea adds the James Rickards High School prospect, who cited coaching relationships and playing time as key factors in his decision.

Vanderbilt University has secured the commitment of wide receiver Davion Crumitie, marking the eighth addition to head coach Clark Lea’s 2027 recruiting class. The Tallahassee, Florida prospect announced his decision on Saturday evening, ending a recruitment that saw him decommit from Syracuse in February.
Crumitie, ranked as the No. 529 overall prospect and No. 73 wide receiver in the 2027 cycle according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, chose the Commodores over several other programs. His offer sheet included interest from Auburn, Kansas State, Kentucky, Florida, and Wisconsin, with Vanderbilt emerging as a top contender after he backed away from his early pledge to Syracuse head coach Fran Brown.
The Rivals Industry Ranking, which utilises a weighted average of major recruiting media companies, also places Crumitie as the No. 43 player in Florida. His selection contributes to Vanderbilt’s 2027 class, which currently ranks inside the top 40 of the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
In previous discussions with Rivals, Crumitie outlined his priorities for selecting a university, emphasising the importance of a strong relationship with the coaching staff, the quality of education, and the fastest path to playing time. These factors appear to have aligned with Vanderbilt’s recruitment strategy.
As a junior at James Rickards High School, Crumitie recorded 63 catches for 980 yards and 13 receiving touchdowns. He also contributed on defence, tallying 29 tackles and an interception. The five-foot-11 playmaker’s commitment solidifies Lea’s early efforts to build a competitive roster for the upcoming cycle.
