Valve confirms summer launch for delayed Steam Machine and Steam Frame
The Steam Machine PC and Steam Frame VR headset are set to arrive this summer, with the company introducing Verified programs to ensure software compatibility on the new hardware.

Valve has confirmed that the long-awaited Steam Machine PC and Steam Frame VR headset are scheduled to launch this summer. The announcement marks a significant shift in the company’s release strategy, moving the launch window from an initial target of early 2026. The revision follows global memory and storage shortages that forced the company to revisit its production and shipping plans earlier this year.
The timeline for the hardware has been subject to several adjustments since the devices were originally announced alongside the Steam Controller late last year. In February, Valve cited ongoing supply chain constraints as the reason for delaying the launch. By March, the company indicated it would ship all three products within the current year, a statement that replaced earlier hopes for a 2026 release. The Steam Controller was subsequently released separately in early May, leaving the Machine and Frame as the remaining items on the launch roster.
To prepare developers and consumers for the new hardware, Valve is currently updating its digital store and detailing its Verified programs. For the Steam Machine, which is described as being roughly six times as powerful as the existing Steam Deck, the verification requirements are nearly identical to those of the handheld console. This suggests that a significantly larger library of titles may meet the performance standards required for the badge, which signals that a game runs optimally without user intervention.
The verification process for the Steam Frame focuses specifically on native performance. The Verified program for the headset highlights games that run well in standalone mode, rather than those that are streamed to the device. Valve stated that it is testing every title that previously fell below performance requirements on the Deck to ensure compatibility with the new VR hardware. The company expressed excitement for players to test titles on the new hardware once they become available.
Despite the confirmed summer window, Valve has not provided an exact release date or pricing for the Steam Machine or Steam Frame. The absence of cost details comes amid concerns regarding potential price sensitivity, particularly following recent price increases for the Steam Deck. Investors and consumers are now awaiting further clarification on the specific launch dates and the final retail pricing for the new hardware.
