WNBA clash highlights contrasting league-leading identities

The Golden State Valkyries travel to Indianapolis on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, to face the Indiana Fever in a contest that will determine the winner of the season series. The Valkyries (17-7) and Fever (14-9) split their two initial meetings in May, making this the decisive matchup of their regular-season schedule. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 PM ET tip-off and will be broadcast on the USA Network.

Golden State enters the fixture on a franchise-record seven-game winning streak, a run that has seen them claim four of their last five away games. This current form closes a five-game road trip for the expansion side, which has already achieved a $1 billion valuation and sold out every home game in San Francisco. The Valkyries hold the league’s best defensive record, allowing just 76.2 points per game, and are ranked second in net rating, trailing only the Minnesota Lynx.

Indiana, meanwhile, leads the league in scoring with an average of 94.0 points per game. The Fever are riding momentum from a 35-point victory over the defending champion Las Vegas Aces, a margin of defeat that stands as the second-largest in franchise history. Indiana has scored at least 100 points in seven games this season, setting a new team record, and sits third in the league for net rating.

Key personnel updates loom large for both sides. Valkyries All-Star forward Gabby Williams, who led the league in steals last season and is a cornerstone of Golden State’s defence, is listed as questionable with back issues. If absent, she would be a significant loss, as she averages a team-best 15.0 points. Conversely, Fever star Caitlin Clark is listed as probable after missing one game due to injury. Clark, the fastest player in WNBA history to record 600 assists, averaged 19.0 points and 7.5 assists in the two meetings against Golden State in May.

Indiana’s scoring threat is further amplified by Kelsey Mitchell, who leads the league with 22.7 points per game and has scored at least 25 points in six consecutive matches. Mitchell was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week following her 27-point performance against the Aces. The Fever have won two consecutive matches and four of their last five, looking to capitalise on their home-court advantage where they are 4-1 against the spread in their past five outings.
