University of Miami confirms awareness of Jordan Lyle arrest

The University of Miami has confirmed it is aware of an incident involving student-athlete Jordan Lyle, following his arrest in Broward County, Florida. The institution declined to provide further details, stating that it would offer no additional comment while due legal processes run their course.

Court records indicate that Lyle, 20, was arrested on Thursday on charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding law enforcement. These charges are classified as felony complaints under Florida law. He also faces a separate misdemeanor complaint for reckless driving.

Lyle was booked into Broward Main Jail on an arrest warrant issued by the Sunrise Police Department. He was released later the same day after posting a combined bond of $55,000 for the charges.

A University of Miami spokesperson addressed the matter in a statement released on Friday, as reported by the Miami Herald. “We are aware of an incident involving student-athlete Jordan Lyle,” the spokesperson said. “As due legal process runs its course, we will have no further comment at this time.”

Lyle enters the 2026-27 season as a key component of the Hurricanes’ backfield. Head coach Mario Cristobal recently noted that Lyle appeared to be back to full speed in practices, highlighting improvements in his physical traits and conditioning following a high ankle sprain that limited him to six games last season.

Prior to the incident, Lyle had been competing for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart behind starter Mark Fletcher Jr. The 6-foot, 205-pound running back originally committed to Ohio State before flipping to Miami out of St Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale.

Miami is currently ranked No. 7 in the nation following a 13-3 season last year, which saw the Hurricanes reach the College Football Playoff national championship game. The outcome of the current legal proceedings against Lyle remains pending.
